"I don't know if there is anything wrong because I don't know how other people are"

I went to see Red Eye tonight with Trevor. It was surprisingly good, had some good tension.
Cillian Murphy is becoming one of my favourite actors, he plays a real convincing lunatic.

I also bought Punch Drunk Love and just finished watching it.

Trevor, my friend, you are right. It's fucking amazing. Absolutely beautiful.

I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed the living fuck out of it, even in my disgustingly tired state. Adam Sandler needs to do more roles like that. Respect++

If I'd have known it was written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, I'd have seen it a long time ago. I now regret all those times I held it in my hand, but never bought it.

Also, I turned on that number verification thing for posting comments. 10 minutes after my "new computer" post, there were already 5 comments, all of which were automated spam. I know it's kind of a pain in the ass, but I figure if you care enough to leave a comment a couple extra seconds aren't going to bother you.

I'll leave it on for a few weeks at least.

And now, I'm going right the fuck to bed, to dream about things, and I'm not spell checking this.

It's like Christmas, only without the disappointment!

yesterday I received my new computer.

The first thing I noticed is that it's HUGE, pretty close to 2 times the size of my older one. It's also insanely heavy.
I guess size isn't really an issue when the thing has the horsepower to get anything done, though. It's rather impressive looking, too.

Also got a huge monitor that kind of hurts my eyes/neck. I also don't think they are the best for gaming, as you get that streaky almost "laggy" effect from time to time. It's not all that noticeable, but I've logged many hours on my old bulky piece of crap monitor, and I can certainly tell the difference.

Now I'm just transferring the last of my files. I bought a 40 gig external hard drive to do so...I wasn't in the mood for burning all my music and shit onto 20 CD's.

Still a pain in the ass, though, having to download things and tweak things and such. Soon enough I'll be comfortable with it, though.

I'm currently figuring a way of transferring my itunes play count stuff, because for some odd reason, it really bothers me that I might lose it.

How odd.

World of Warcraft runs smoother than ever and Battlefield 2 is like butter.

Time to have some fun.

8.25

I just watched the film Downfall. It's about WWII and more specifically the last days of Hitler's Third Reich as the Russian army closes in on Berlin.

Whether you like war films or not, this one comes very, very highly recommended. Being shown from a German perspective (and in the German language, thank god) is something we really don't get to see much of in the days of standard Hollywood action films.

This movie has left me feeling completely numb, all I can do is sit here and think. Very powerful stuff, I have to say.

A brilliant film.

Good Day

I am finally in possession of legit copy of the album "Bellaclava" by Limblifter. It's been out of print for the last few years and has thus, been very hard to find, it seems.

I got it used off some seller in the Amazon marketplace, it's in mint condition and was not very expensive, so it was worth the wait.

I also got some movies today including The Brown Bunny Which was written, directed and produced by Vincent Gallo, the man behind the phenomenal film Buffalo '66.

I read plenty about the film, including the controversy behind it before it was released, and it was nice to finally see it.

I don't exactly know how I feel about the film...More than half of it is probably scenes of Gallo (a motorcycle racer) driving down highways or through cities, all filmed from a jumpy camera placed in an odd position, featuring hardly any dialogue.

Now, you can say the film is basically a realistic way of showing a man and his journey through various cities (New Hampshire to Los Angeles) but then you'd have to ask yourself...Does this make for an entertaining movie? And something you want to view for an hour and a half?

The answer, at least for me, is yes. It's original in a sense that is unlike anything I've seen.

It's a slow ride for most of the film, and then in the last half hour, it's kicked into high gear and everything sort of falls into place, I don't mind that sort of pacing, but a lot of people do.

Oh, and the controversy surrounding the film comes from a "graphic sex scene" which has been called "one of the frankest portrayals of male sexuality ever seen in American cinema" basically what it boils down to is an on screen (or real, if you prefer) oral sex scene, which yes, is a bit shocking to see, I admit...But it's more of an intense scene than it is a purely sexual one, at least for me, anyway.

I guess all forms of violence are still fine, but when there is a sex scene, and, oh my god, a penis it's time to get crazy and plaster labels of "ADULTS ONLY" all over the DVD case.

Contrary to what some people might tell you, it's not a goddamn porn film.

weirdos.

blow jobs aside, it's worth watching at least once if you want to see a film by a very talented director. Just make sure you open your mind.

oh, no babe today, I'm far too lazy.

Well, here we are, Dan.

Well, my family (minus my older brother and myself) left for BC yesterday. They rented a big ass house boat (really).

We did that once when I was younger, only it was a smaller boat, but still a lot of fun. There is something real cool about living on a lake and just going wherever you wish.

This time, I decided I'd stay home, though.

I'm glad to be here alone right now. I like the peace and quiet and not having anybody here to bother me.

I can sit here and do nothing ALL day, and like it.

My family is close...But not REAL close...I don't think I could handle being so close to my family members for that long, which might sound sad or mean, but it's just how I am. I've sort of grown out of the whole "family trip" deal...or something.

Though there would have been plenty of time to do some fishing. Oh well.

Energy...And the people who drink it.

Last night when I went into work, I was tired...Very tired. I mean, I'm always a bit out of it, but this was worse.

I made it up until coffee break when I decided I needed a pick me up. I went to 7-11 and bought some fancy energy drink. I downed what tasted like 355 ml of camel piss mixed with the sweat from a fat old man (yes, I've tasted both separately) and waited for something to happen.

It didn't. No "increased reaction!" "more mental awareness!" absolutely fuck all. And I knew it would be like that because I'm no stranger to these supposed "energy" drinks.

I remember drinking red bulls when you could first get them here, and telling myself it was really helping me stay awake.

I'm willing to bet it's all mental. You think it's supposed to affect you in some way, and so you make yourself think it does.

I know that caffeine, and all the other crap they put in these drinks effects people in different ways, and I guess it does absolutely fuck all for me.

I can get the same "kick" from a 50 cent can of coke as I can from a little $4 energy drink.

Of course, there is also the argument that maybe I'm always simply loaded with caffeine as it is, and so any other crap I put into my body does nothing. I don't know.

Regardless, I wonder about the people who make a habit of buying these things. It's an immense waste of money.

Oh, and you can't forget the whole "I'm hardcore because I'm drinking this energy drink!" attitude. Which does exist due to marketing from morons...to morons.

Idiots.

Boy am I tired. Time to drink some water.

Oops, I almost forgot:

Oh lordy.

Sin City came out on DVD today, I snatched a copy up and watched it not long ago. I saw it in theaters and told myself I wanted to see it at least once more before it stopped playing, but never did.

Thank god for movies getting quicker and quicker DVD releases. Although it's a very bare bones disc. No special features at all, only a "behind the scenes" thing, which I have not watched yet.

You just know there will be a "two disc special edition" in under a year. I'll probably buy it too, because I'd love to listen to some audio commentary on this movie.

It really is brilliant.

In terms of effects and filming, it's downright amazing. It's worth seeing if only for that, I swear to god.

Oh, and Jessica Alba, she's one of the most gorgeous women in the entire world. I don't know what it is about her, but man oh man.

Wait, I do know what it is about her, but I don't want to get into it.

Instead:

Seriously, this is a MAN'S blog and if I can't post pictures of hot women...what CAN I do?

I think from here on in I'll include a picture of either Jessica Alba or Shakira in every post, even if it's not related in any way.

eighty-six 'em

I'm going to bitch about some things I hate.

1. People who think they know everything. The type of person who thinks they are better than others, but would never admit it.
They'll tell you things like they know what they are talking about and how they are surprised you had no idea.

They'll also go on about the most obvious things as if it were some sort of new found discovery. I'm talking small, common sense things that everyone knows.

Idiots.

2. Driving without any music. I don't like hearing the whine of my car and nothing else. I'm the type who will always have the radio on just for some noise, even though I'll trade loud ass music for a good conversation anyday.
When I'm alone though...Well, I turn that shit up.

3. Driving a hatchback in heavy rain when the rear windshield wiper refuses to fucking work. Fuck.

4. People who will not watch subtitled movies because they "don't like to read their movies" my dad is like this. He refused to watch Kung Fu Hustle today after finding out it was subtitled just a few minutes in.
It's not at all hard to read, watch AND enjoy.

Yep.

I talked to a buddy today and he was going on and on about how It's "a risk having nice things installed in your car" after I told him about how I was ripped off.

No FUCKING SHIT, eh?

Then said something to the effect of " crappy, but whatever, it's just a stereo. I doubt you had a real expensive sound system in there anyway" like a fucking moron.

I don't know how people cannot wrap their head around the fact that is isn't about WHAT was taken from me...it's the fact that it WAS.

He's a know it all, they typed I just wrote about in my little list. So annoying sometimes. I like the guy, but come on.

maybe he reads this.

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE

Total protonic reversal.

I recently bought the Ghostbusters 1&2 DVD "gift" set. Those movies are great. I remember seeing them when I was young, and being kinda scared. The jokes/humor went all over my head, so it was nice to finally see them again.

Oh, and the Ghostbusters 2 disc includes two episodes from the animated series, which is reason enough to buy it alone.

I just watched them not long ago...and holy shit did a bunch of memories come pouring back to me. Memories of waking up early on Saturday and watching cartoons ALL morning. Cartoons back then were so much cooler, I swear to god.

Maybe it's just because I've "grown up" but the crap on TV nowadays is just that.

Though, there are some shows I liked way back then and watching them now makes me say "wow, this sort of sucks" but Ghostbusters isn't one of them.

It was awesome. It is still awesome.

As soon as the animated series gets a proper DVD release, it's so mine.

Nerding out.

A few days ago Ryan and I picked up Battlefield 2. I thought it might run on my system, just very poorly.
Turns out, it would installed fine, load up fine and then freeze on the main menu.

I'm sure it's a video card thing, as I'm under the minimum specs, there.

I think the game has insanely high requirements. It really doesn't look all that much better than games like Half-life 2 or Doom 3, which I can run smoothly enough, and I've heard many a person complaining about having to upgrade just to play this game. Sure, it's full of huge maps and LOTS of action, but still.

Anyway, needless to say, it got me looking for a new video card, but I scrapped that idea and realized I just want a whole new rig. I put one together at Dell that was quite a beast. The final price was $3,700. A little too much for me.

I selected a lower level model (still a beast) and customized a few parts and got it to a decent price of $2,600. Still a lot of money, but I don't think I'll have to upgrade for very long time.

2 GB of ram and a 256 MB video card is pretty much all I need to stay in the game. Considering I'm on 512 MB of RAM and a 64 MB card at the moment, the offer sounds enticing as hell. It literally makes me drool.

I did decide to hold off a bit longer, though. In order to find out what I can sell my current PC for (I've got some people interested).

I'd also like to get my other debts out of the way before I take on any more. Seems like the smart thing to do.

Knowing me I'll end up buying it in a couple hours anyway.

Drive

Me and my younger brother went to "pick your part" today ( I think that's what it is called) to grab a window for my car.

I had got an estimate from a few places that told me it would be around $190 for a new one, installed and all.

I quickly said "fuck that" and we found ourselves walking around this huge lot full of junked cars. If any of you don't know how it works, you basically pay a $1 fee to walk around, at which point you try to find a model of car you want to lift parts from. We quickly found a '90 Daytona and ripped apart the door before undoing some screws/bolts and lifting the window out.

Piece of cake, and it only cost me $25. I was told windows from a Daytona are all the same from '84 to '92 or some such number, so It had better fit or I'll be a bit annoyed.

I don't think it'll be too hard to put in, either. All the glass trapped inside the door is gonna suck to clean out, though.

It's going to be for sale very quickly, I think. It's tainted, now. I'll probably take what I can get for it and move on.

In the meantime, it's still got to get me where I need to go.

The Island....of product placement.

Went to see The Island with the boys tonight.

It was average, and about 45 minutes too fucking long. Michael Bay (still a wanker) is notorious for making films that run far too long. Not to mention making them mindless action films.

I think this is easily his best, but that isn't saying all too much. The concept is great, and could have been real cool...But no, let's just splice in some more shots of cars flipping over 3000 times and helicopters flying around.

Oh well, I knew what I was getting into. It was just good to spend some time with the guys.

I'd give the movie a 4 out of 10, and then I'd add a point for one simple reason:

Ahh, what the hell, let's have another.

Perfect.

God, I love human beings.

Last night at work my car got broken into. The drivers side window was smashed in and my deck was ripped out of the dash.

How fun.

Just what I needed.

At the time, my only thoughts were "yeah, well what can you do?" and "I wonder which CD I had in there"

But it kind of hit me now....What the fuck is wrong with people? I mean Jesus Christ what kind of loser person smashes in a car window and rips off something that isn't theirs?

It's sick. It really is. It's not even about having to replace a window or buy a new deck, it's the fact that the human race makes me sick to my fucking stomach.

For that reason alone I wish I could find the guy or guys that did it and beat the living fuck out of them. And I would. They could keep the goddamn thing, but believe me, they'd have a hard time enjoying it.

fucking pricks.

Damn you Trevor, Damn you.

Since Trevor is away on some sort of family vacation, he emailed me and asked if I could procure some Nine Inch Nails tickets as they went on sale this morning.

Being the friend I am, I decided to do so.

Turns out the son of a bitch just phoned and reserved some anyway. I knew something like that was going to happen.

So I guess maybe I'm going to see Nine Inch Nails sometime in November. Ryan, you may as well come with, I got two tickets.

I don't even really like them. They aren't terribly bad or anything, but still.

Games

This is not including my Horde character (who I neglect) or my other two alts.

It's not an addiction, I swear.

Let's look at the new helmet I got today.

It's pretty badass, and only set me back 20 gold (thanks Ryan). I kind of miss my full faced one, because it made me look pretty scary, but let's be honest, horns are pretty fucking scary too.

In other game news I got Killer 7 for my GameCube a few weeks ago, and I can say without doubt that it is the strangest game I've played. Ever.

It deals with multiple personalities, terrorism, war, dead people and hitmen. all at once.

It's also pretty brilliant in terms of it's art style, which is unlike anything else I've seen. If you're looking for blood, killing, swearing and all that good stuff, you'll find it in obscene amounts, too.

Though I admit to not touching it for a few days now. I have a huge list of games I need to finish and get out of the way. I blame World of Warcraft for this massive backlog.

I just can't stay mad at it, though.

A cheery wave from stranded youngsters

A couple weeks ago I picked up the Controller.Controller album "history". After at first hating the single of the same name I somehow fell in love with it and decided to see what the rest of the tracks were like.

Pretty awesome stuff. It's great, easily listenable, foot tapping rock with a distinct sound.

Add them to the growing list of Canadian bands worth listening to and keeping an eye on.

I've got a bunch of stuff written that I hope to have on my site very soon. The past while has not been kind to the creative side of my mind, I'm afraid, and so I've been reading and re-reading several very old, unfinished things and trying to spruce them up instead.

These old things bring back good and bad memories, as some of them are literally 2-3 years old. It's pretty interesting to see it all again and even more interesting to see the way they've changed and what they are now.

Anyway, it seems to have worked, a little. I'm putting the finishing touches on a few as I type this. I don't know which ones I'll actually post, but there should be something soon enough.

Not that anyone cares, mind you, but as I've said before, it's one of the few ways I can (or care to) express myself these days.

These days.

They are getting weirder and weirder.
