RAWWWWWWRRRRR

Chances are if you are around my age (or older, considering the date the book was published) you read "where the wild things are" when you were a kid and thought it was awesome.

And it still is, because like most excellent pieces of art, it is quite timeless.

So you can imagine how weird it is seeing a trailer for a movie adaptation:

and also feeling that somehow, they actually nailed it dead on.

the look of the monsters is perfect and just sends waves of nostalgia throughout my body. Maybe this will be one "family film" actually worth watching. Something that despite being for "kids" sort of reaches EVERYBODY.

Shit like Harry Potter and all those mindless CG movies featuring talking animals/robots/whatever don't do shit for me.

Please don't suck, please don't suck, please don't suck.

and yeah i know the video fucks up this page but I don't give a fuck.

games again.

So Resident Evil 5 is out.

The series is probably one of my favourites and has been since I played the very first game. When the 4th was released, the feel of the entire series changed for the better. I Still consider it one of the best games ever.

5 is mostly more of the same (which is good) but also has certain changes that just...don't feel right. First and foremost there are no longer any save rooms (type writers) and no merchant to sell you weapons.

You may argue that it isn't a huge deal, but ever since the first game, finding a save room (and hearing the calming music) was part of what made the game so awesome. You're walking around, not knowing what the fuck is going to jump out and scare you, and when you finally find a room, it's like you can finally breathe.

Same deal with the Merchant from RE4. Not only was he awesome and creepy, but everytime you saw him from a distance you just KNEW you were safe and that it was time to stock up and kick some ass.

Take out those two seemingly minor things and the game feels vastly different, in my mind. No, not in the way it is played, but the way it feels. 4 also did atmosphere and creepiness much, much better.

I haven't beat it yet and it's not like I dislike the game, but I can't help but feel it's stepping too much into the straight up action game territory.

I swear to god if the next game plays like Gears of War, I will be upset! Sadly, I can see it happening.

Also your AI partner goes from being the dumbest bitch ever to being a real help, which overall makes for a frustrating experience, and again, just takes away some of the tension.

I don't hate this addition though, in fact I understand it and it makes for an interesting dynamic and adds some cool gameplay ideas, so it is actually not a huge problem.

co-op with another person would be fun I guess, but I'm more of a single player guy, especially when it comes to a game like this.

Totally worth buying if you are a fan, and most of what I'm complaining about is probably nitpicking, but I don't care. I'm allowed.

4 is simply just a better game, so far.

In other news, if you own a Wii go buy Madworld. Like right now.

that is some awesome, bloody, offensive oldschool beat 'em up action right here:

Seriously, Dude has a chainsaw on his arm and you get to kill people in the most insanely violent ways ever thought of.

again, I'm not finished it, but am loving it thus far.

Beautiful.

You know how every once in a while you see a film that just hits the right chords and everything comes together to make you feel like you just watched something really spectacular?

Wait...maybe you don't know that feeling, but I do. And it's the reason I watch so many movies and try to get so much out of them. It's the reason I research movies I've never heard of, or browse unknown films at HMV and so on.

Today I watched Let the Right one in and it gave me that feeling for the first time in a while.

You could say it's a vampire movie and leave it at that. You could also call it a film about a young boy coming of age and leave it at that.

Truth is it is both of those and so much more. I just don't feel like summarizing the film because it doesn't really do it justice.

You know how there are quotes from critics on DVD cases that are supposed to help sell a movie? (that is why they are there, right?) they range from calling this movie"horrific" and "the years most acclaimed horror film" which I guess I can't really argue...but the one that sums it up completely for me is one that simply says "Beautiful"

That is really all that needs to be said, because throughout the violence (it's not that extreme) and the other sinister themes it is truly a beautiful and touching story.

I also want to ask a rhetorical question, and that is why do Foreign films always tell a better story than North American films ever could?

Everything here is done so perfectly to me, from the opening credits to the framing of shots to very ending and the overall feel.

It hurts my mind to sit and think about if this story had been American cast/directed/filmed instead of Swedish.

I guess that's what "Twilight" was, though.

And so, I rest my case.

toys.

A while ago I randomly bought an EBow of of Ebay (link describes it better than I care to) and I got it today.

I was just messing around with it for 20 minutes or so (Without reading instructions or listening/watching the cd that came with it) and had a decent amount of fun.

From what I've watched/read you can do some really awesome fucking shit with it, but it takes a lot of practice to get it all down.

Basically I just ran it up and down/rocked it back and forth over the pick ups and made some ear screechingly beautiful (or horrid?) sounds based on which string was vibrating.

You can sustain notes forever and make a bunch of other sounds which is pretty awesome.

like this dude who is obviously a robot, or invented the damn thing:

I have not tried it on my bass, but I imagine it would be just as much fun.

In other music news I also got KORG DS-10, which is software for the DS, but not quite a game. It's actually an honest to goodness synthesizer program in which you can do some really sweet shit. Again, I find it confusing as all hell, but even a mogoloid like me was able to produce some awesome beats, editing them in real time. I also believe you are able to loop certain "tracks" you produce over top of one another to create some weird shit.

I was going to record a sample, but I am too lazy, so check this out if you care to:

Fuck, the DS is amazing.

So yeah, two cool "toys" to fuck around with, both of which get my creativity flowing in the music sense.

It's fun stuff.

it's a book.

So, following In Geoff's timely acquisition, I bought one of these a couple days ago:

And then proceeded to take the (really) terrible picture seen above.

I picked it because I wanted a netbook for something to mess around with and such. Who doesn't love internet while in bed or on the couch, for instance.

It was not the cheapest one, but it was a fair price considering. It felt the most solid and comfortable, in fact I am amazed at how good the keyboard feels considering the size of the whole unit.

I could have spent a few hundred more bucks and gotten a low end "real" laptop, but I don't really see the need to even have a disc drive or a fancy videocard in something I just want to lug around and open up whenever I damn well please.

Anyway, I also looked at some of those Acer ones and they looked and felt a little too cheap.

Apparently it's just an OEM version of the MSI Wind, so that's good considering all the great things I've heard about that one.

It's good fun so far.

Nothing else to report, really.

But here's a picture of our lord and saviour:

Awww, yeah

whatever.

"The only appropriate attitude for man to have about the big questions, is not the arrogant certitude that is the hallmark of religion, but doubt. Doubt is humble and that is what man needs to be, considering that human history is just a litany of getting shit dead wrong. "

So I just finished watching Religulous a documentary about Bill Maher investigating/refuting/questioning religions around the world and I have to highly recommend it to everybody because it was great and thought provoking. Also hilarious.

The guy is fearless in his questions and making people look like the morons they are.

I know people will argue that it paints a picture of religious people being crazy...but guess what, they are.

It also brings up an issue I've always thought was funny (in that sad kind of way) and that's how people of a certain religion, such as Christianity, you know, the ones who believe in a man in the sky causing miracles, the garden of Eden and a fucking talking snake think other religions like Scientology are insane.

Seriously. What the fuck is that?

I could write pages and pages about this film but I think people should just watch it.

On a less serious topic Trevor and I saw Underworld: rise of the lycans the other night and here is my 10 word review:

Decent, but needed more Kate Beckinsale in tight leather.

Now, I am going to bed. Fuck this.
