Yes, yes! Music!

A few days ago I was browsing the websites of a few of my favourite bands and came across this:

Which happens to be one of my favourite "bands" (really, it's two guys from Scotland producing some of the coolest and strangest electronic/ambient music ever) I am super excited, as it has come out of nowhere for me and I thought they were pretty much done.

That, along with new Matthew Good on September 20th and a new Sigur Ros album coming out very soon makes me very happy.

But wait, there is more!

I got my G7 Welcoming Committiee newsletter this morning and found out the new MOTHER FUCKING PROPAGANDHI ALBUM is coming out on October 18th, it is titled "Potemkin City Limits" and, holy fuck, it is about time.

"Three visibly aging trainables, clearly in the wrong line of work and quite seriously on the verge of suicide, make a recording of their private thoughts set to music for distribution to the general public. New laments, meditations and extrapolations from people who just cannot believe they have to be here."

Oh man.

Listen to the song "Die Jugend Marschiert" here. It rocks. Hard.

I dont really get siguor ros, actually the majority of the post rock bands i dont understand, but they do put out some awesome emotional music.

Propagandhi on the other hand are awesome, i hope their new album sounds more like their older stuff, Todays empires are tommorows ashes, was a bit to hardcore for my taste. Songs like Anit Manifesto and that flag song, awesome.

In a coma. i havent been this excited to own a piece of music since White light Rock and Roll was released.

Even then, you knew WLRaRR was just going to be a musical expression of Matthew's political beliefs. In a Coma is just... ah, amazing. Check the bunny suit again. There's two more little glowy thingies.

Yeah but for me white light rock and roll review was the first album i owned that wasnt polished to say. The songs sound exactly the same live as they do on the disc, i am not sure how to describe it. Its just that raw power that grabbed me, nothing fancy. Thats what i liked about.

Now off to the bunny suit.

fuck that, Trevor, Today's empires was the best Propagandhi album. I liked it because it was a lot more serious than their other stuff and a lot heavier, too. Those guys seriously know how to kick ass, musically.

I think the new album has a different sound, though. Judging from the one song.

I will enjoy it either way, I think.

Also, I was still far more excited to have Avalanche in my hands than I was White light rock and roll review, but in a coma is going to OWN.

I like propagandhi's old stuff way better, i am not saying Today’s empires sucked, it was ace. Just their older music was better. Musically they're awesome, I have a bit of beef with some of there politics though.

I cant find a valid argue point with Matt Good all his music is equally as good. I just mentioned white light rock and roll, because it came out most recently.

Oh yeah, what is there to undertand about Post rock?

Where to begin, 8 min songs with no meaning, vocals i cant understand... you tell me. Its a type of music, that grows on you definitely but in the same respect its and acquired taste. Its good in small doses but after that its debatable.

saying a song has "no meaning" is a silly thing.

Who says? just because it doesn't have some generic lyrics you can relate to?

I disagree.

long songs don't bother me at all, either. in fact, some Godspeed you black emperor songs are 20+ minutes, and I love every second.

And it's more about the sound of it than the lyrics. Some of my favourite songs and bands are purely instrumental.

Think of them as Symphony type compositions with a whole lot more guitar and you'd be on the right track.

I love it. I need it.

Also, Old Propagandhi is awesome, but a lot of it borders on poppy stuff that is kind of hard to swallow. It's like Propagandhi light, to me.

They hit their prime with "Today's empires"

oh, and I'm curious what about their politics you don't agree with.

I'm not being an ass, I'd really like to know, because they are a bit extreme. But I like it.

TREVOR!

YOU USED THE RIGHT THERE/THEIR/THEY'RE!

i hope their new album sounds more like their older stuff

Wow. That is all I have to say. ;)

Well, and that Jo and I listened to our fair share of Sigur Ros. She burst into my room when she heard me listening to a song or two and about died from happiness that I liked what I knew of their music.

COME ON!

They're great. Period. And I'm with Dan, long songs are absolutely wonderful and that music is more about the sound (for some, myself included).

I am not saying post rock is crap I enjoy it, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best genre out there. Long songs are good, but when your listening to a song for 5 min and there is nothing but some odd ambient noises repeated over and over again, it just seems its dragged out. Beautiful music that it is, arguing is useless, because everyone is right. Ill end it on that.

As for propagandhi’s politics I don’t really want to get into because that could turn this comment section into a political novel. Thats a late night msn talk.
